Ministry of Health responds to criticism of certification standards

ContinuingOPENED 2025-01-05

The Ministry of Health issued a response on 5 January to what it described as online criticism of specialist certification standards and of the welfare of medical professionals. The response addresses the certification standards and the welfare criticism. The account of the criticism available to Newsful is the Ministry's own; no critic is named in the material available to Newsful, and no named practitioner, professional association, or health worker is recorded stating the criticism. The criticism is reported here only as the Ministry characterised it. The response, as summarised, does not state what the specialist certification standards are, where they are published, or under what instrument or board they operate. It gives no doctor headcount, no vacancy figure, and no on-call hour limit, so neither the certification claim nor the welfare claim can be checked against a published figure. The Chief Medical Officer and the Minister of Health are not named in the material available to Newsful. As of 5 January no reply attempt to the Ministry of Health is recorded.
