A weekly brief on the public record of
St. Kitts and Nevis · Basseterre

How Newsful is made.

This page states, once and factually, how each issue is produced. It is not repeated in the Brief or the Thread.

Production

Each issue moves through a fixed sequence. Source material is pulled from a registry of St. Kitts and Nevis news outlets, government sites, and the official record, checked daily. From that material, claims are drawn out one at a time, each tied to a subject, a date, and a source document. Before any claim is kept, the exact quoted text is checked against the source document it names; a claim whose quote cannot be matched is dropped, not published. A draft is then written from the verified claims. Automated drafting systems produce the first version of the prose; they do not decide what runs. A set of deterministic checks reviews every draft: sentence length, source citations, working links. A human editor reviews the issue at three separate points before anything is published, and approves each one. Publishing itself is a manual step, taken by the editor, never automatic.

Claims and sources

Every factual claim in a Brief item carries its source in the sentence: a named person with a title, a named institution’s document, or a named outlet’s report. A claim that cannot be attributed to a checkable source is not published; there is no unnamed-source option. Source outlets are classed by type, government, independent, regional, or affiliated, so a reader can weigh where information came from.

Links and the record

Every source link in a published item points directly to where the claim came from, checked as a working link before publish. If a source has no direct link, or a link later goes dead, the archived copy saved to the Wayback Machine at publish time is shown instead, marked with a dashed underline. No source link ever points to a search engine.

Corrections

When Newsful gets something wrong, the correction is posted at the top of the affected item, dated, with the wrong text struck through, not removed. The complete record of every correction is kept at /corrections, permanently. Anyone can request a correction from that page; every request gets a logged answer.

Coverage

A running account of what Newsful has and has not covered, by sector and by source, is planned for this page. It is not published yet.
